Reviewing Wolves of the Beyond Book #4: Frost Wolf

(Currently I am taking abreak from writing, due to writer's block. On the other hand, I owe you a book review. This time around it will be the book I just recently finished.)

WOLVES OF THE BEYOND BOOK #4: FROST WOLF

"This book is very good. I enjoyed it a lot. The theme was basically about saving a land from starvation and bringing to justice a nameless criminal that they can't even find. The cover of the book is very well painted, I might add. Overall, I rate this book 4 stars, and though I don't think its could be a classic like Lord of the Rings, it shows promise of being popular and very enjoyable to teens and adults. I probably wouldn't let a child under twelve read it due to reasons I won't state because it would spoil the story."

Reviewing The Lord of the Rings Book #1: The Fellowship of the Ring

This week's book review will be of J.R.R Tolkien's masterpiece The Lord of the Rings. I decided to review his first book in the trilogy because it deserves the honor of being the first book reviewed on my blog. This is also my thirtieth post on the blog.

"This book, The Fellowship of the Ring, is the most amazing book I have ever read in my entire life. It is extremely well-written, and very impacting. I admit I got emotional over many scenes in the book. I was very touched by the sense of fellowship... everlasting friendship that binds people together... that Tolkien gave off through his writing. No doubt that his work influenced me to write better and be more patient at times with my own work. I cried during the death of a character, which has never happened to me before. I strongly recommend reading this book, and the rest of the trilogy... I can guarantee that you will be as touched by this amazing emotional and epic book as I am."

A Blog with More Purpose...

So I got my first feedback today from a very nice author like myself. I looked at her blog and I have to say that I really like it. Thinking about buying one of her books. Anyway, she gave me a few suggestions about what I should do on this blog and I have what to do with this blog. To give it more of a point rather than updates about my current and future books.

I will list what I plan to do with this blog below in a bulletin list:

  • BOOK REVIEW: Every week I will review a book, starting with books I have already read which should last us a while... like a year and a half.
  • PICTURES: Every so often, whenever the time is right, I will post a picture that has something to do with one of my books.
  • WRITING TIPS: I will make posting writing tips my second to main goal on the blog.
  • MY BOOKS: Everytime I publish a new book I will list it here.
  • PAGECOUNT & OTHER COOL NEWS: I will still keep you all updated on my current and future books. Like how far into the book I am considering page count, what the cover should be like, little sneak peaks of books, etc.
So that is about it for now. I am sure I will come up with more ideas for what to do with this blog later. If I do I will let you know. By the way, you can look forward to a book review tonight or tomorrow.

Book Review Blog and Marketing Blog Also?

I don't know... to make this blog more active I think I will use it for reviewing books I like and for marketing my own. I would like an opinion on this from my followers. What do you want? I don't want you to have to look at things you don't even really want to see in the first place.

Writing a short story. Should be published quite soon actually. Yes, there will be wolves in it... and yes, it is about England and knights and kings in the Dark Ages. Oh my goodness, yes.

Dosanki Trilogy?

Do you want Dosanki to be a trilogy?

Notebooks and Pens... That's All I Need.

They are having a Going-Back-To-School sale at a nearby food store with notebooks and pens and pencils... I do not go to school, luckily, so I have a lot of time to write my books for you all and for my own enjoyment (which I admit comes first because I not only want to write the stories but I want to properly bond with the characters in the stories).

My point is about the sale... you know how men can't help help looking at attractive women? Same with the pens and notebooks for me. Whenever I pass the Going-Back-To-School sale I can't help looking at it and stopping for a moment. Writing and anything to do with it is my love... and I am very attracted to it *laughs*

I name my pens, btw. Two are Zebra brand, stainless steel pens and their names are Legend and Story... while I have another Pilot brand pen called Eiffel. I don't name them because I am young, it is because I have a bit of fun while doing this.

Speaking all these pens and notebooks and such, I have recently gotten a black composition book and have written a bunch of stuff about my books in the first few pages; but what is great is that I am writing in bulletin style the entire plot of Dosanki in detail. It will be a standalone novel and I will begin writing the book itself sometime in October.

I will treat you to something. Two versions of the Dosanki cover.

Which one do you like best?
Comment below and tell me.
I personally like the second one because that is what I saw in my dream.

Elves and Mythical Creatures?

I told you on my first blog post that one day I would say that I am going to write a book with elves and the like. Well, I am now. It was only a matter of time. I had a dream today of a great potential story for the book. I am going to plan this one out well before I begin to write it. It will be published sometime in the next two years.

Fireworks Forum: Book Covers for Free!

Watching the fireworks, an idea I had from last Fourth of July came back to me. A year later, I have decided to finally put the idea into action: a forum where people can ask me to do their book covers on photoshop... and for the time being, free!

The site is called: Fireworks Forum

The forum will be finished in a few weeks, but you can see it here in the early stages: http://fireworksforum.boards.net

The Orphan: New Trilogy!

I have started a trilogy. The first book is called The Orphan's Blood. It is basically about a woman called Piper who is sent back in time to help King Arthur become what he is meant to be. That is all I will say of it right now.

...Cookies?

I keep changing the design. Bare with me, okay? I get sick of designs very quickly.

A TDATW Manga

There may be an illustrated special edition of Sascha's childhood in the druid clan. It was going to be a manga, but I realized on the fifth page that I could not draw humans. Maybe one day I will hire someone to draw out a manga for TDATW. Maybe even a couple. But not now, I could never even begin to hire a manga artist. Then again... I could ask my brother if he would be interested in making a manga of Sascha's childhood instead of just writing a special edition. My brother is an amazing artist.

Werewolves

You know, werewolves are not so bad... but the way everyone is using them these days! In books for starters; everything happens pretty much the same in every book with werewolves. It is usually centered around sexual intercourse and/or a love story and always set in modern day. I am not a fan of something that has been repeated a billion times. Like I said, nothing wrong with werewolves... its just that the authors of the books can't think of anything unique.

So perhaps if I took a werewolf and used it in a totally different way the people who hate werewolves would like them a bit more? I have no idea what story this book would entail ( certainly something original ), or even WHEN I would create it.

Let me know in the comments if you agree with what I said. If you have any ideas for the story let me know, I might even start the story sometime soon.

A Prequel to a Prequel?

I haven't updated in a while! Sorry about that. I would have posted more during this week and last week had some important things in real life not come up. Well, I have some things to say that you might find interesting.

1.) I watched Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring last night! It was amazing! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! I read the book first and I noticed that a lot of the book was not added ( for example, Tom Bombadil from the Old Forest ). But overall, this movie is terrific! Great job, Peter Jackson!

2.) I currently have 130 pages in Marksman, though am not even close to done. Marksman will be a very important story, for it will show many things that Sascha may never even know. Or maybe she will know in the future books of TDATW... I cannot say yet. I am doing these books as I go. Maybe things like this could be voted on in the future?

3.) On the subject of prequels, I may just make a pre-prequel or a special edition story telling of the Ancient Wolves before mankind, a story where the Wolfen language will be spoken many times. We will see. I may not get votes now, for I only have one follower and that is my mother so I know what she would say, but when I get around fifty I will post a voting post and we'll see if my followers want it done.

4.) If any of you know a good place to advertise your books for free, then please put the link in the comment section! I would help me out a lot!

5.) There is a YouTube user who is going to draw out a requested piece of art for me very soon and record it as a speedpaint/video draw. I will post the video here for you to see. She is also going to include the links to my two current books, which I cannot thank her enough for! That means so much to me! I'll include her link in the post description of with the video, so please subscribe to her on YouTube and deviantART!

I think I have gotten most of what I want to say off my chest, so until next time! Love you all!

...Then I Took An Arrow To The Knee.

I just finished The Fellowship of the Ring. I thought it was THE best book I have ever read! I saw the audiobook had a note from J.R.R. Tolkien himself and he said all these awesome writer tips and the process of writing the first book. Basically, it took him since before The Hobbit was published ( in 1937 ) to 1948 to write it. That is a long time. And look at me, belting out books every six months! I know, I need much more practice before I am even to be similar to Tolkien's way of writing.

Now to buy the first movie, directed by Peter Jackson!

Also, getting the game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim tomorrow at Walmart. Many people think the "Arrow to the Knee" joke is overused, which is true, but anything from Skyrim in my opinion shouldn't be losed of its awesomeness by other people.

So this is what I have to say: "I tried to write like J.R.R. Tolkien.... then I took an arrow to the knee."

The Druid and the Wolf Book #3 Spiders on the Mound SNEAK PEAK!

SPOILER ALERT!! SPOILER ALERT!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Sascha,” said a strong gruff, yet kindly voice, in the dark mist of the forest, “come hither, and meet with a spirit of the Ring of Vagand.”
The Great White Wolf gasped with horror, fear streaming through her mind rapidly. She did not yet realize that she was dreaming, which made her panic even more. The forest was dark and filled with mist that wrapped itself around and caressed the maple and oak trees. She decided to trust the voice and follow it to its owner. With her wonderfully keen white wolf ears she managed to find the place she was looking for in a matter of fifteen minutes. What she saw was, unknown to her, the Ring of Vagand. There was one man in the center of the circle area and she could not recognize him.
He had dark brown, almost black, hair with a thick goatee along with thin sideburns. He was very tall, probably standing at ''6”5. His eyes were orange and his face was shaped like that of Xanthus de Taske. “Hello and welcome to the Ring of Vagand, Sascha,” the man said with a smile.
“...Xanthus?” the white she-wolf flattened her ears uncertainly. “Where have you taken me? I demand you tell me the way back to Zachery in the forest I was in!”
The man hung his head sorrowfully as memories rushed through his head. “You are in the Heaven, Sascha, where the Ring of Vagand is located,” explained the man. “Hell is below us. And no, I am not Xanthus. I could never be the monster that he is. I am his father, King Richard de Taske. I am ashamed that my son would turn my bloodline into something feared and terrible. Though he has done all of this, I still cannot regret conceiving him.”
This was Xanthus' father? He seemed like such a friendly man, which was the complete opposite of the former traitor king. “Why do you not regret having him?” asked Sascha.
“Because despite what he has done,” said Richard, “I love him. But now is not the time for chat. There are dark matters to discuss.”
Sascha tilted her head with confusion: “Dark matters? You mean The Scourge, right?”
Richard de Taske nodded: “Yes, partly. But I also wish to say that there is a greater darkness than Xanthus in this world, who has joined sides with Xanthus.”
Sascha gulped in worry. A darker force than Xanthus? She couldn't imagine it. She said: “Who could be worse than your son?”
Richard responded: “The Chieftain Tuhota of the Tuhota Kaiken Quest.”
Sascha screeched with terror and lowered her body to the ground, covering her eyes with her arms: “Please! Please don't say that name! You are the father of Xanthus, you must be lying!”

I Just Want To Say A Few Things

I once said that the third The Druid and the Wolf Book would come out sometime next year... well, taking into consideration I now have nearly 100 pages, I think it will be out long before next year. If my muse keeps going at this pace then it will be out in at least three months.

I also want to say that when I get more followers I will be much more active on this blog. There is not much sense posting everyday and getting little to no attention, right?

I downloaded a few new fonts yesterday, and one of them will be the new font for TDATW's Complete Novel Edition where all the books that I have written for the series will be included all together. The font is called Apparatus SIL.

My other stand alone book "Marksman", which is by far a prequel to the TDATW series, has nearly 200 pages, due to a proper new font I downloaded. It is size 14, but will be 12 in the final product. I plan for there to be around 700 pages in the end. I know you are probably thinking "700 pages?! No way! That is a lot of pages!" All I have to say back to that is... I thought the same before I became a LOTR fan!

I am also proud to say that even though my tablet pen got lost in Orlando, I am finding the Laptop Mousepad to be a wonderful tool to draw with. My drawings are exactly the same as they would be with a tablet... strage, but great to see. Without a tablet I thought I would not be able to make detailed book covers. What helps is sketching the drawing in DeviantART Muro.

Okay, well I kind of got everything I needed to say off of my chest; I am going to stop now. Hope you all have a great day ( or night )! To all of you writers ( published and unpublished ), keep on writing!

Book Cover for the Fourth Book or C#NV!

This will either be the cover of the fourth book or the cover of the "Complete (insert number here) Novels Version". Made this with the Laptop Mouse Touchpad.

New series?

Had a dream today and came up with an entire new series. I guess you can say I have a mouthful of books to work on, but I just enjoy myself when a mob of books are expecting attention from me. You will find out more about it when I really start working on it in the future.

I Wrote 40 Pages Last Night!

I started with 13 pages yesterday in The Druid and the Wolf Book #3 and ended up with 40... can I make it 50?

Harloc?

This morning I am writing book #3 in The Druid and the Wolf Series; could Harloc be returning in this one?

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
A druid physician has prophesied the coming of a great white wolf that will save them. Soon, a white wolf pup is found in the forest and taken into the druid clan. After being raised by the clan for a year, the king of a nearby city decides to capture the druids and attempt to have them executed. After setting off on a journey to learn how to fight, will she make it back in time to save her beloved family?

FIRST REVIEW:
"Sascha is a white she-wolf who is a mix of a dog and a wolf. A druid physician has prophecized a wolf like her with dashing green eyes coming to save the druid clan from the murderous hands of King Xanthus. So, when Sascha is found lying in the woods as a pup, everyone is suspicious of her. Could she be the one that the physician had talked about so many times? But all life as she knows it will come to a screeching halt when the druids are forced out of their camp by Xanthus. Will she make it back in time to save the druid clan and everyone she knows and loves? This book was an absolute page turner for me. It was dangerous because once I picked it up I could not put it down for another hour. I was actually sad when it ended. Olivia has done a phenomenol job making the reader feel as if they've known Sascha forever. This book puts friendship against survival and life among all else. I will absolutely be coming back for more in Olivia's next book in the series "Night of the Black Hawk". I reccommend this book to anyone with an imagination and a craving for adventures!"

Welcome to my Blog!

Hello! Welcome to my blog! I am Olivia Hamel, the author of The Druid and the Wolf Series and other books to come in the future. I am 13 years old. . . 14 on September 21st this year. I started writing when I was seven years old, and published my first book on February 28th 2012. I have been through so many characters, some I have killed off and some I have let live. As far as characters go, I have been through canines, felines, humans, shapeshifters, trolls, witches, mages, druids, assassins and god-like beings. Ever since reading J.R.R. Tolkien's works I have wanted to add elves and dwarfs to a story. . . now all I have to do is find the right one to add them to. None of my current ones, that is for sure. At some point in this blog's life I am sure that you will see me announce a certain book with elves, drawfs and gnomes. So if you are looking forward to that and all of the content I have previously stated, then why don't you subscribe to me here on Blogspot?

I don't want to make this first post long, because most peple are busy and just wanting to read a quick post. So this is all for now. Until next time!

Sincerely,
Olivia Hamel
